After weeks of anticipation, the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) raised its target for the federal funds rate by 75 basis points (bps) to 2.25–2.50%. The move was widely expected by market participants, and it comes as inflation remains near 40-year highs. Notably, the FOMC vote was unanimous, with all members in agreement that a rate hike was necessary. In its statement, the committee noted that inflation had picked up in recent months and that it would continue to monitor price data closely. The news sent crypto prices rallying, with Bitcoin climbing above $20,000. Ethereum also surged higher.
